We are an independent company focusing on the environment and the future of our planet. Our first ever product which will be launched at the end of 2018, is all about sea turtles and how our planet is being affected by plastic pollution.
Starting as a student project, Akumal team is very proud to be under wings of University College Birmingham.
The challenge
Food for people, Freedom for the planet
By usage of fully compostable materials for the packaging, the message about sustainable sources and recycling will get straight to the consumers. As a product marketed for students between 11 and 16, there has to be a fun aspect, but also an educational aspect which will attract such young costumers.
It is a true challenge but we found a way how to tackle it.

There is no planet B
We are creating the future and it depends on us how much environmental damage can we reverse
Fact number one: It is believed that by 2050, there will be more plastic waste in the oceans than fish.
Fact number two: Food companies are at the moment playing the main role in producing packaging which is in 99% cases non-degradable and ends up polluting our oceans and planet in general.
Fact number three: Each year, plastic pollution is killing more than a million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals and sea turtles which usually mistake it for their favourite snack (jellyfish).
Fact number four: Some damage cannot be ever reversed but it can be prevented so it will not happen again or keep getting worse.
